TUSCUMBIA-Tuscumbia Police Chief Tony Logan released a statement concerning the standoff and arrest this morning, Friday, April 14:
“At approximately 7:42 am this morning, the Tuscumbia Police Department was called to the scene of a violent domestic dispute at 1128 Shirley Dr. Arriving at 7:45, two injured individuals were discovered in the driveway. Officers on the scene determined that the suspect was Torry John Ingram, age 31, with residence at the driveway. Mr. Ingram was known by the officers to have a history of domestic violence and DUI offenses, and had a current warrant outstanding. When officers attempted to enter the building to apprehend Mr. Ingram, entrance was refused and the door was barricaded with indoor appliances. At that time, backup was requested and provided by the Muscle Shoals Police Department (SWAT), the Colbert County Sheriff’s Department, the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency, Sheffield City Police Department, and the Alabama Bureau of Investigation. The surrounding residences were evacuated and law enforcement determined that Mr. Ingram was the only individual inside the building. Officers attempted to communicate with Mr. Ingram using a Public Announcement System. At that time, Mr. Ingram fired a gunshot from inside the residence to the outside of the building, in the direction of law enforcement. Approximately five minutes later, contact was attempted again via public announcement, cell phone, and landline phone, and another shot was fired from the inside of the residence. SWAT then fired tear gas inside the residence after the utilities had been turned off remotely to eliminate air circulation. After approximately eight minutes, Mr. Ingram exited the residence and surrendered peacefully.
The determination was made after the situation was resolved that Mr. Ingram attempted to reload the firearm, but was prevented from doing so by a mechanical malfunction. He is currently being held and interviewed by investigators. Charges to be filed will be determined in collaboration with the Colbert County District Attorney’s office. The injured individuals, Mr. Ingram’s parents, were transported to Shoals Hospital, treated, and released.
Tuscumbia City Police Chief Tony Logan issued the following statement: “I want to thank the various law enforcement agencies for their cooperation in helping us to resolve this situation quickly and peacefully without further injury. I want to also thank the residents in the surrounding area for cooperating and allowing law enforcement to safely resolve the situation.”
Tuscumbia City Mayor Kerry Underwood issued the following statement: “I appreciate the hard work of all of our local law enforcement employees and Chief Logan. I am glad this situation was resolved peacefully with no further injury or loss of life.”
