Mr. Turner Lynn Smith, passed away on Monday, November 13, 2023. Born in Anniston, AL, Lynn attended Anniston High School and graduated with a Bachelors in Criminology from Jacksonville State University. After graduation, Lynn was an officer with Oxford Police Department for 5 years.
Lynn moved to Panama City, FL to begin working as a Corporate Investigator for Gulf Power Company. He retired from Gulf Power in 2019 after 35 years with the company. If he wasn’t working, you could find him with a metal detector strapped to his arm. Lynn had an obsession for metal detecting and gemstone mining. There weren’t many coins or stones that he did not know the history or origin of. And if he didn’t know, you can bet he would do research on it and read all that he could about them. Lynn was also a history buff with an endless knowledge on major past history events. He loved reading about local and regional history. Lynn was a constant giver without regard for himself.
He is survived by his wife Sheila, sons Josh (Chelsea) and Andrew (Leslie), grandchildren Christian, Preston, Henley, Peighton, Layla, Presleigh, and Rylie.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Southerland Family Funeral Home on Friday, November 17, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. Graveside service will be held on Monday, November 20, 2023, at 11 a.m. at Maple Grove Cemetery in Anniston, AL.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations be made to Emmaus Global Methodist Church at 1206 Hwy 2297 Panama City, FL 32404.
