Turner Construction Hosting 8-week Program for Local SMWBE Businesses

HUNTSVILLE– Turner Construction, a general contractor with offices in Huntsville since the 1950s, is inviting local small, disadvantaged, minority-owned, women-owned, and veteran-owned businesses to an 8-week workshop designed to help them grow their business and find opportunities to work on major construction projects in the area.

The program, Turner School of Construction Management, is free to qualified businesses, but space is limited. Registration opens May 30 and runs until June 30. The program begins July 13 with lunch-session classes on Thursdays at Bryant Bank at 320 Pelham Ave in Huntsville. Classes run 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. and lunch will be provided each day.

Turner School of Construction Management is one of the most prestigious education and community outreach programs in the commercial construction industry. The program presents an opportunity for firms to improve their economic viability by enhancing their managerial, technical, and administrative skills while networking with similar businesses. Companies also learn how to make themselves more visible to large general contractors. Turner Construction serves clients in the aerospace, industrial, government, education, and commercial segments.

Recent and current construction projects managed by Turner in Huntsville include the new Huntsville City Hall, The Huntsville Botanical Garden Visitor Center and Toyota Field.
Turner aims to secure at least 20 percent of sub-contract work through SMWBE businesses but exceeds 30 percent on many projects.

The FREE Turner School of Construction Management (TSCM) for small, disadvantaged, minority-owned, womenowned, and veteran-owned businesses is one of the most prestigious education and community outreach programs in the commercial construction industry.
