Troy Willard Akins, 91, resident of New Albany, passed away peacefully Thursday September 12, 2024, at Rest Haven Nursing Home in Ripley, MS.

Funeral Services honoring Mr. Troy’s life will be at 3 PM Sunday September 15, 2024, at New Albany Funeral and Cremation Care with Bro. Chad Chism officiating. Visitation will be from 1 PM until time of service on Sunday September 15, 2024. Burial will follow in Plesant Ridge Cemetery in Union County.

Born March 19, 1933, in Union County, Mr. Troy was the son of the late Lonnie Troy and Rosa Lee Little Akins. He received his education from the Tippah Union School System, and was a lifelong farmer, who was employed as a forester for the U. S. Forestry Service, until his retirement. Mr. Troy was a firm believer in hard work and made a living out of doing what he loved, which was operating bulldozers, working the land, and being outdoors in God’s creation.

A Christan, Mr. Troys favorite pastimes included hunting, fishing, and running dogs, as he spent many nights with buddies, coon hunting. He looked forward to sharing time with his family, and never missed the opportunity to “hitch” a ride with them to work. Mr. Troy was a dedicated, loyal, and determined man, whose family looked up to and strived to be like. He had a servant’s heart and led others by example, as he would give you the shirt of his back and help anyone he could. Mr. Troy knew the true riches of life, which was working hard, keeping life simple, surrounding himself by his family and friends, and loving the Lord with all you have.

Those left to cherish his memories include four daughters, Wilma Fay Simmons, Willie Ann Bateman (Terry), Penny Hackathorn, and Patricia Hall (Ronnie), one sister, Jessie Bramlitt (Dewight), nine grandchildren, William Douglas Simmons, Terry Lee Simmons, Viginia Chism (Daran), T. C. Bateman (Lynsey), Vicky Higginbotham (Michael), Ray Hackathorn (Elizabeth), Lacy Hall (Kim), Jacab Hall (Beth), and Neely Hall, and fifteen great-grandchildren, Zack Simmons (Carey Beth), Savannah Moody (Chandler), Marissa Duke (Corey), T. J. Simmons (Jenna), Natalie Simmons, Andrew Chism, Andrew Ellis, Jake Ellis, William Ellis, Dean Hackathorn, Benjamin Hackathorn, Aubrey Hall, Claire Maharrey, Jacob Wilson, Nathan Wilson, and Hugh Duke.

He is also preceded in death by his beloved wife, Jessie Fay Crumpton Akins, a sister, Lonnie Lee Churchill, three brothers, Edward Akins, James Akins, and William Akins, and a son-in-law, Cecil Simmons.

New Albany Funeral and Cremation Care invites you to share memories with Mr. Troy’s family.
