Mr. Travis Junior Phillips, 76, of Lexington, Ala., left to join his heavenly father after an extended illness on Sunday, Sept. 15, 2013, at ECM Hospital in Florence, Ala.
Services will be Wednesday, Sept. 18, 2013, at Spry Funeral Home Chapel in Athens at 11 a.m. with Frankie Raney officiating. Visitation will be today from 6-9 p.m. at Spry Funeral Homes, Athens. Burial will be in Mitchell Cemetery in Anderson. Pallbearers will be family and friends.
Mr. Phillips was born May 23, 1937, in Lauderdale County, Ala. to Johnie Alvin and Hattie Lee Raney Phillips. He was of the Baptist faith. Mr. Phillips was a 1955 graduate of West Limestone High School. He was an avid Atlanta Braves fan, retired from Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company in Decatur, Ala., was a U.S. Army veteran and a Shriner.
He was preceded in death by parents, Johnie Alvin Phillips and Hattie Lee Raney Phillips; infant brother, Alvin Lee Phillips; and twin sisters, Betty Phillips Moore and husband, Lavon, and Robbie Loyce Harris.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Stella Mary Smith Phillips, of Lexington, Ala.; sons, Arthur Joseph Phillips and wife, Becky, of Lexington, Travis Junior Phillips II, Lindsay Earl Phillips, of Lexington, and Logie Alvin Phillips and wife, Angie, of Florence; daughter, Mary “Cal” Heathcoat and husband, J.R., of Rogersville; brothers, James Phillips and wife, Shirley, of Columbia, Tenn., and Joseph Phillips and wife, Kelly, of Orlando, Fla. He is also survived by sister, Carol Sue Davis and husband, Gary, of Athens; brother-in-law, George Smith, of Dunville, Ky.; grandsons, Dustin Phillips, Chris Phillips and Jackson Tucker, all of Lexington; great-grandsons, Lucas Phillips and Levi Phillips, both of Lexington; nieces; nephews; cousins; and many wonderful friends.
