Travis Edwin Staub – Obituary

Travis Edwin Staub, son of the late Joseph Edwin and Dorothy Louise Staub of Fulton, Mississippi, died Tuesday, January 6, 2015, at Sanctuary Hospice House in Tupelo. Born on January 20, 1933, in Reform, Alabama, he moved to Amory and then to Fulton where he met and married his wife of 61 years, Norma Jo Gaither Staub. He was the first Eagle Scout in the city of Fulton and graduated from Itawamba Agricultural High School in 1951.

He was a 1955 distinguished military graduate of Auburn University School of Architecture with a B. S. degree in Building Construction. He was a member of Sigma Chi fraternity. After graduation, he served as a construction engineer in the U. S. Air Force, assigned to the Pentagon’s Installation Representative Office in Atlanta, Georgia. He returned to Fulton where he worked at JESCO for 45 years serving as president for 25 of those years.

He was a servant leader to his family, friends, church, and community. He was a faithful member of Fulton United Methodist Church where he was a member of the Kitchen Class and served in various roles, most recently serving as a trustee.

He was a director emeritus of the Board of Directors of Bancorp South and served on the executive committee. He served as a member of the Board of Directors of North Mississippi Health Services and North Mississippi Medical Center.

Past leadership positions he held included past president and member of the board of the Itawamba County Development Council. He was chairman of the Lee County Community Development Foundation and a past member of the board of the Mississippi Economic Council and the Mississippi General Contractors Association. He was on the planning commission for the town of Fulton and a trustee of Methodist Senior Services of Mississippi.

He planned and executed the construction of Camp Tik-a-Witha, a Girls Scouts of the USA camping facility, in Van Vleet, Mississippi, while serving as chairman of the Prairie Girl Scout Camp development Committee. He was a member of the Yocona Council Boy Scouts of America Advisory Board and a scout master and district chairman.

He received the ICDC business person of the year and the IAHS distinguished graduate award.

Until his illness, he enjoyed making pottery and working in his flower beds. He enjoyed time with friends and family and being “Pop” to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p. m. Thursday, January 8, at the Fulton United Methodist Church with the Rev. Phillip Box and the Rev. James Price officiating. Burial will be in Itawamba Memorial Gardens. McNeece-Morris Funeral Home of Fulton is in charge of the arrangements.

He is survived by his wife, Norma Jo Gaither Staub; four children, Susan Gaither Sharp of Memphis, TN, Nancy Staub Jakaitis of Atlanta, GA, and Laura Staub Young and Steven Edwin (Maria) Staub, both of Tupelo; ten grandchildren, Emily Sharp, Amy (Guy) McCoy, David Sharp, Anna (Derek) Sinclair, Katie (Gerritt) Gordon, Megan (Cole) Pearson, Alice (Brad) Griggs, Michael Staub, Ivy (Trey) Frazer, and Tate Davis; seven great-grandchildren, Mary Dru McCoy, Gavin McCoy, Smythe McCoy, Addie Mae McCoy, Singley Ann Sinclair, Wyatt Gordon, and Cason Pearson; a nephew, Amery (Courtney) Staub; and a great-nephew, Noel Staub.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph Edwin Staub and Dorothy Louise Staub; a brother, A.J. Staub III, and a niece, Baker Guyear.

Pallbearers will be Jerry Stubblefield, Dan Steele, Jerry Maxcy, Bill Howell, Roger Beachum, Johnny Crane, Tommy Weatherford, Edwin Stafford, Steve Gaddy, and Harold Martin.

Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Kitchen Sunday School Class at Fulton United Methodist Church.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p. m. Wednesday and from noon until service time Thursday at the Fulton United Methodist Church.
