UPDATE: This just in from the Florence Police Department: The petting zoo has voluntarily shut down and is leaving the area. According to investigators the next stop for the petting zoo was Birmingham, but cannot confirm an exact location.
This case is still under investigation and additional charges are likely.
FLORENCE– Florence Police Detectives have arrested Daryl V. Raymond, Jr, 48, of Stockholm, Maine, following reports alleging that he abused two (2) children at a traveling petting zoo in Florence.
Florence Police were notified of the incident yesterday as detectives were investigating the murder of Charles Hugh Perkins. Following the conclusion of that case a second victim came forward and was interviewed by detectives.
Raymond, who is an employee of Jungle Safari, was taken into custody without incident this morning. He was interviewed by detectives and subsequently arrested.
He is charged with two (2) counts of Sexual Abuse of a Child under the Age of Twelve, a Class B Felony.
Raymond is currently being held in the Lauderdale County Detention Center on bond of $100,000.
