Traffic Check-Point Stop Nets Two Suspects And Drugs

MORGAN COUNTY-Morgan County Deputies net Drug mother lode during an early morning Safety Check-Point on Highway 231 near Old River Road on Saturday May 28.  Sheriff Ana Franklin released a statement today May 31: 

“Early Saturday morning, May 28th, 2016, Deputies made contact with James Ernest Erwin (W/M 36) of Arab and Jimmy Wayne Mansel (W/M 22) of Arab, ending a crime spree that began in South Huntsville and ended on Hwy 231 in Lacey’s Spring.

Deputies were conducting a Safety Check-Point on Hwy 231 near Old River Road when they made contact with the two men. Both had outstanding warrants and Erwin told Deputies he had some marijuana. A subsequent search of the vehicle produced three pill bottles containing Methamphetamine, Adderall, and Marijuana. The Morgan County Drug Task Force was contacted and responded to the scene.

Task Force agents located items in the vehicle that linked Erwin and Mansel to a robbery that had just occurred a few hours earlier in South Huntsville.

With the assistance of ALEA Narcotics Agents, the Task Force also located a bag hid under the hood of the vehicle containing 4 oz. of Methamphetamine.

Both subjects were arrested and charged with Trafficking in Methamphetamine, Unlawful Possession of a Controlled Substance- Adderall, and Possession of Marijuana II. Mansel was also charged with Unlawful Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. Erwin’s has a $7,800.00 bond and Mansel has an $8,100.00 bond. Both subjects are facing pending Robbery charges with Huntsville PD as well.”
