Tonya Renea Frederick Scott

Tonya Renea Frederick Scott finished her earthly pilgrimage and entered the portals of heaven from NMMC on Monday, March 3, 2025, after a sudden illness. She was 51 years old. Tonya was born in Tupelo to the late Marlin Frederick and Callie Ruth Goggans Frederick on July 12, 1973. She went home from the Tupelo Hospital as a baby to live on “Frederick Hill,” the family homestead in Pontocola, where she lived her whole life. Tonya graduated from Shannon High School in 1991 where she played on the softball team. She continued her education receiving her BA degree in Education from Blue Mountain College. Tonya taught for 12 years at Shannon Middle School before retiring to spend time with her two children as they grew up. She was a longtime member of First Baptist Church in Shannon. Her great loves were taking care of her family, all dogs especially her dog, Scooter, scrapbooking and enjoying country living with family and friends.

A service celebrating her life will be held at 2 PM Thursday, March 6, 2025, in the Sadie Holland Memorial Chapel at Holland Funeral Directors-Tupelo with Bro. Tommy Kelly officiating. Burial will follow in the Goggans family plot at Palmetto Cemetery. Visitation will be from Noon-service time on Thursday only at Holland-Tupelo Chapel, which is honored to serve their friends. For those unable to attend, the service may be viewed at hollandfuneraldirectors.com/Live-streaming at 2 PM and will be archived thereafter.

Tonya is survived by her husband, Jeff Scott, whom she married at First Baptist Church, Verona on June 19, 1993; her daughter, Cari Scott and son, John Marlin Scott, all of Pontocola; her sister, Ava McMullen of Pontocola; her 2 nieces, Ashley Williams (Richard) and Kayla Phillips, and 2 nephews, Drew Bruff and Brady Brazeal; 1 great niece and 4 great nephews; her mother-in-law, Kathy Wilburn (Eddie) of Dorsey, father-in-law Johnie Scott (Sheila) of Auburn, and her sister-in-law, Nicole Strickland (Joseph). She was preceded in death by her mom and dad, Callie Ruth Goggans Fredrick Carter and Marlin Frederick; her daughter, Callie Scott; her sister Cindy Frederick Drummond; and her grandparents.
