Tony Douglas Vandiver, 61, resident of Blue Mountain, passed away on Thursday, March 9, 2023 at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Union County following an extended illness.

Services honoring the life of Mr. Vandiver will be at 2 PM Sunday, March 12, 2023 at Locust Grove Baptist Church with Bro. Doug Horton and Bro. Jeff Watts officiating. Burial will follow in Locust Grove Cemetery.

Mr. Vandiver was born on December 14, 1961, the son of the late Robert and Betty Barnes Vandiver and was a 1980 graduate of WP Daniel High School. He later on enlisted in the United States Army National Guard on September 3, 1987, where he proudly served his country until January 15, 2005. After being discharged from the United States Army National Guard, He was a valued employee with the Union County Sheriff’s Department for 20 years before retirement.

A Christian and faithful member of Locust Grove Baptist Church, Mr. Vandiver will be remembered for the pleasure he found in hunting, funny socks, raising chickens, his dog, “Opie” and moments cherished with his family, especially his beloved grandchildren.

“I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith.” 2 Timothy 4:7

Visitation will be from 5 PM until 8 PM Saturday, March 11, 2023 at Locust Grove Baptist Church.

Survivors include his devoted wife of 38 years, Sherry Vandiver of Blue Mountain, his daughter, Samantha Rollins (Justin) of New Albany, his son, Joshua Vandiver (Teri) of Columbus, two sisters, Lynn Doyle (Homer) of Hornsby, TN and Paulette Bates (Hulon) of Camden, TN, his brother, David Vandiver (Melinda) of Columbus, six grandchildren, Curt, Maybree, Raelyn, Cooper, Charlie and Clay, and his loyal canine companion, Opie.
