Tommy M. Langford, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and steadfast friend, passed away peacefully on August 18, 2024, at the age of 91. Born on March 26, 1933, in Rome, Georgia, Tommy’s life was marked by resilience, unwavering faith, and a profound love for his family.
Tommy is survived by his devoted wife of nearly 60 years, Jean Langford; his son, Dr. Sean M. Langford; daughter-in-law, Nickey Langford; and his beloved grandsons, Caleb and Nathan. His family finds solace in the outpouring of support and kindness they have received during this challenging time.
As a child, Tommy faced the significant challenge of losing his hearing due to mumps when he was in the sixth grade. Despite the barriers imposed by his disability, Tommy’s spirit remained indomitable. He received special education at a school for the deaf and blind in Rome, Georgia, but was later pulled from school to work on the family farm, a common practice of the time. Tommy’s determination and faith were constants throughout his life, and he overcame many obstacles with grace and perseverance.
Tommy’s mornings were a ritual of faith and reflection. He was often found at the dining table with a cup of coffee, breakfast, and his Bible. He believed in nourishing his soul with spiritual sustenance before partaking in earthly food, a testament to his deep faith and dedication.
Tommy’s legacy is one of enduring strength and commitment to his family and community. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Tommy M. Langford’s name to Cove Baptist Church, P.O. Box 219, Owens Cross Roads, AL 35763. These donations will support initiatives for individuals and families of the hearing impaired, including scholarships for American Sign Language lessons and hearing assistance devices for church use.
Tommy will be deeply missed, but his spirit and legacy will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
