Tommy Griffin, 94, of Ripley died Monday, June 24, 2024 at his residence with his loving family and caregivers at his side. Visitation will begin at 12 PM Thursday at Ashport Baptist Church, where he was a member, with funeral services to follow at 2 PM. Interment will be in Poplar Grove Cemetery near Henning. Garner Funeral Home of Ripley has charge of the services.
Mr. Griffin was a retired contractor having renovated hotels all over the country. He laid carpet and tile, was a plumber, an electrician, wallpaper hanger and carpenter. He was a United States Army Veteran having served during the Korean War. He was a member of Oakville Masonic Lodge, Memphis Scottish Rite Bodies, and Al Chymia Shrine Temple.
He was married to Mavis Sellers on March 14, 1951 and were married for 64 years until her passing in 2015. Tommy and Mavis made everyone feel like family, always welcoming and willing to share what they had, never expecting anything in return. Tommy enjoyed gardening, fishing, hunting, and growing peach trees. His life was rich, full, and well lived. He took pride in being a man of his word.
He is survived by his daughter Renee Nelson (Rick) and his granddaughter Dr. Rachel Nelson. He was preceded in death by his parents Tom and Myzzie Griffin; sisters Katherine Bunnell, Hettie Mae Lee, Sue Craft, Bonnie Tweedy and Betty Clegg; and brothers Bobby Griffin and Joe Griffin.
