Tomio (Tom) Sato, 90 years old, of Huntsville, AL, passed away on Friday, February 24th, 2023.
Born on the island of Maui, Hawaii, he was the youngest of five children.
Tom is preceded in death by his brothers Takao, Kimio, and Yukio Sato, and sister,
Mildred Wakakuwa.
Tom is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Marlene; sons, Stanley, Sam and his wife, Sheila, and Cliff Sato; daughter, Julie Harrell and her husband, Alan; grandchildren, Anthony Sato, Amanda and Brandon Harrell, great-granddaughter, Chloe Sato; and several nieces and nephews.
He served in the U.S. Army and received his Master of Engineering from UAH. He was employed as a structural engineer for Chrysler, Brown Engineering, Rockwell, and Thiokol Corporation, and as a consultant for Stone Engineering. He retired after a lengthy career with Thiokol. He always expressed how much he enjoyed his work and working with his colleagues.
Tom loved spending time outdoors with his family, boating, water skiing, fishing, having picnics, and playing golf (which he picked up after retirement). He enjoyed woodworking and could make or repair any and everything. No matter what the project was, he was up for the task. Tom enjoyed bowling, even as recently as last year at the age of 90. He was always active and made exercise a part of his daily routine.
Tom fought a long and valiant battle with dementia and finally, Covid.
A private family celebration of life will be held to honor him and his meaningful life.
