Todd William Huinker, a cherished resident of Hartselle, Alabama, passed away on Monday, May 20, 2024, at the age of 75. Born on May 4, 1949, to Florian Fredrick (Todd) Huinker and Margaret (Bennett) Huinker in San Diego, California, Todd’s life was marked by adventure and a love for new experiences.
As a military brat, Todd’s childhood was filled with travel and excitement. He moved around the world, finally graduating high school in the Panama Canal Zone. His academic journey then led him to the prestigious Kings Point Merchant Marine Academy in New York, where he earned a bachelor’s degree after four transformative years.
During his time at the academy, Todd met his first wife, Mary Ann. After Todd’s graduation, they moved to California. There, they welcomed two children into their lives: a son, Brian Huinker, of Hanceville, Alabama, and a daughter, Britney (Huinker) Semler, currently living in Westlake, California.
In California, Todd pursued a career as a realtor in Agoura Hills and also worked at Trans World Airlines (TWA). His professional path later led him to Miami, Florida, where he was part-owner of Florida Fuels, a company that refueled cruise ships at the port of Miami. Todd’s journey continued after he moved from Miami to Austin, Texas where he embraced retirement, indulging in his lifelong passion for golf and love for travel. Todd returned to California in the early 2000’s where he continued golfing. Soon thereafter he developed a keen interest in stock market investing.
Eventually, in 2021, Todd moved to Elkmont, Alabama to be closer to his family. It was here that he met the love of his life, Marla (Fuqua) Huinker. It was love at first sight, and the couple married soon after meeting, dedicating their remaining years to each other.
Todd is survived by his beloved wife Marla, his son Brian, his daughter Britney, and five cherished grandchildren.
A small memorial service will be held at his daughter’s farm in Leiper’s Fork, Tennessee, gathering family and close friends to celebrate Todd’s remarkable life and the many wonderful memories he leaves behind.
