TUSCUMBIA – These guys came to the Shoals from Illinois and hooked up with a Florence man and allegedly murdered a kid over an Xbox. That, according to Tuscumbia Police Chief, Tony Logan, is pretty much the long and the short of it. Logan held a media conference this afternoon to detail the developments surrounding the AK-47 style murder of a 19 year old, Kijana Freeman.
The accused killers are Peter Capote, 22 and Thomas Hubbard 31, both of Muscle Shoals. They recently arrived in town from Illinois, and according to Chief Logan, knew each other there, both having extensive criminal records. The third man is identified as Benjamin Young, 28 of Florence. He is the person who allegedly evaded police in a stolen pickup truck from Alabama up to Lawrence County, Tennessee. The Quad-Cities Daily reported Friday that Chief Logan didn’t believe that Young was involved in the murder, however as information was developed, it became evident to police that he was allegedly involved.
Capote and Hubbard had their first appearance in court this morning before Judge Chad Coker. They remain in custody in Colbert County Jail, no bond being set in this capital murder case.
Young is in the hospital in Tennessee, having suffered injuries as a result of an accident that terminated the high-speed police pursuit. He is expected to be returned to Tuscumbia shortly. It is not know at this time if Young will fight extradition to Alabama.
Logan remarked at the conference that the base cause of the shooting may have been over an Xbox that the 3 alleged perpetrators were trying to recover from the victims.
