ATHENS-The Threads of Honor quilt was unveiled today with more than 600 names of veterans stitched on this patriotic treasure. The quilt was the idea of Marlene Isom, and local quilters joined her to craft this artwork to honor veterans and raise funds for the expansion of the Alabama Veterans Museum and Archives. Donations to include the names raised over $40,000.
The City of Athens Mayor’s Office presented Marlene and her Quilting Crew with a certificate of appreciation for the hours spent to craft the quilt and support our veterans.
An estimated 170 people attended the unveiling at the museum, where the quilt will be on permanent display.
