Thomas Wayne Miller, 81, of Huntsville, passed away Tuesday. Tom was born November 30, 1943, in Elizabeth, New Jersey and was raised by Lewis P. Miller and Margaret Augusta Miller. He grew up in New Jersey, and married his sweetheart, Glenda Davis in 1964.
Tom served in the Army from 1961 to 1970. For 2 ½ years he was an instructor at the Ballistic Missile Digital Computer School at Redstone Arsenal. He was assigned responsibility for service on a Burroughs computer used on the Pershing Missile System in Germany.
He attended Athens State College and received a BS in Business Administration. Early in his career he was responsible for the maintenance of IBM unit of record and tabulation equipment under contract to NASA/MSFC. He was part of the team at Kennedy Space Center responsible for the production and maintenance of real-time and batch programs using the Shuttle Inventory Management Systems. He spent the last 20 years of his career designing, implementing and supporting end-user office automation products, financial management and Human Resource utilization tracking.
He was a long-time volunteer at the National Children’s Advocacy Center (20 years), and was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Huntsville, AL.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Glenda Marie, and daughter, Cynthia. He is survived by his daughter, Cheryl Stephens (David); son, Ryan Miller (Melissa); three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be at 10:00 a.m. Thursday January 9, 2025, at Maple Hill Cemetery. Family and friends are welcome to attend.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the National Children’s Advocacy Center.
