Thomas Vassar Morton III Thomas Vassar Morton III, 71, of Athens, passed away on Wednesday, January 15, 2020 at home. He was born March 1, 1948 in New Jersey to Thomas Morton II and Dorothy Nicol.

Funeral services for Mr. Morton will be held on Friday, January 24, 2020 at Poplar Creek Baptist Church at 3:30 p.m. with Charles Simmons officiating. Visitation will be held from 2:00 until 3:15 p.m. prior to the service. A short Graveside Service will be held at Wallace Cemetery on Saturday, January 25, 2020 at 10:00 a.m.

Tom was a long time resident of Morris County, New Jersey and attended Hanover Park High School and Newark College of Engineering. He served in the Navy from 1965 to 1969 as a sonarman. He is a Past Master of Acacia Lodge #20 F&AM, Dover, NJ. He retired from Lucent Bell Laboratories after 25 years as a Member of Technical Staff and moved to Athens in 2001.

He is survived by his wife, Nancy Morton; brother, David Morton; sister, Carol Kendra; cousins, Elizabeth Davis, Sally Cliff, Tom Nicol, Peter Nicol, Natalie Jean Nicol and Sally Yearous.
