Thomas ‘Tom’ Quinn May, 73, of Huntsville, AL, passed away peacefully in his home on Saturday, May 15, 2021 surrounded by his loved ones. Tom was born with his twin brother James ‘Jim’ Carter May on December 20, 1947 to Louie Whittle and Frances Willard (Quinn) May in Laurel, MS. Tom graduated from Huntsville High School in 1966, and then went on to attend Snead State Junior College and the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa. He worked in the sales and service industries for over 40 years. Tom married his wife Suzanne Christine Thorn on January 26th, 1980 in Vestavia, Alabama and became a step-father to Suzanne’s daughter Christine Byrd-Harris. They went on to have two more children, Thomas Ryan and Bethany Morgan May. Tom loved the outdoors and was an avid hunter and fisher for many years. He enjoyed building various structures, including hunting blinds, and spending time in his flat bottom boat fishing or in tree stands watching for the perfect buck. A few of his other pastimes were watching Alabama football, playing cards, watching Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune, and doing the daily crossword puzzle. Tom was preceded in death by his parents Louie and Frances and his twin brother Jim. He is survived by his wife Suzanne, brothers Louie Michael (Joan) May and Kenneth Paul (Helen) May, step-daughter Christine (Rob Harris) Byrd-Harris, son Thomas Ryan (Ellexus) May, and daughter Bethany May; grandchildren Robin Harris, Alia (Sebastian) Velasquez, Charles Wallace, Thomas Jacob May, Michael Quinn Griffith, Morgan Lee Griffith, and great-granddaughter Luna Saphira Velasquez. Services will be held at Spry Funeral Home on Thursday, May 20th at 6:00 in the evening with a visitation hour preceding the service. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the American Cancer Society or the American Lung Association.
