Thomas (Tom) E Bonner, 78, of Scottsboro, AL, passed away peacefully on October 16, 2024. Born on July 26, 1946, to Thomas Bonner II and Kathleen (Jenkins) Bonner, Tom spent his early years in eastern Tennessee, before his family ultimately settled in Jackson County, Alabama. He attended Scottsboro High School, enrolled at the University of North Alabama on an ROTC scholarship, and served as an officer in the US Army both overseas and domestically. After finishing his Army service and returning home, Tom met the love of his life and future wife, Linda (Richardson). Tom’s second career in
government contract administration took he and his family to Huntsville, Minneapolis, Chicago, and Washington, DC before ultimately coming back to the place dearest to his and Linda’s heart, Scottsboro.

Tom was a dedicated, loving husband and father who prioritized his family above all else. Tom enjoyed his cherished wife Linda, the connection with his siblings, spending time with his grandchildren, the fellowship of church and rooting for the Tennessee Volunteers.

The church was an important part of he and Linda’s life together. Tom was a humble, steadfast, and devoted servant to God whose faith only strengthened as cared for Linda during her prolonged illness and early death. He had a kind heart and caring nature which he expressed through his deeds rather than words.

He is preceded in death by his father, Thomas Bonner II; mother, Kathleen Bonner; wife Linda Bonner; sister, Carol Putman and brothers Robert and Kenneth Bonner.

He is survived by his son, Benjamin Bonner (Christine) and grandchildren Elizabeth, Catherine and Maragret; Sister-in-laws Jayne Bonner (Kenneth) and Lorreta Bonner (Robert); nieces, Ginger Spitzmiller, and Christy Bonner; nephews, John Putman and Jeff and Timothy Bonner.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 2, 2024 at the First United Methodist Church with Dr. Stephens Screws officiating. Burial will follow in Cedar Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Saturday, November 2, 2024 from 12:00 p.m. until 1:00 p.m. at the church.
