Thomas Newman Younger – Obituary

Judge Thomas Newman Younger, 85, born January 31, 1929 died peacefully in his home in the presence of his loving family on Sept. 10th, 2014.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years Thelma S. Younger of Huntsville, his children Chuck Younger, Linda Younger Finnegan (Mike Finnegan) and Sandy Younger Goode (Brian Goode). He is also survived by 4 grandchildren Shawn and Colby Finnegan, Tyler and Tracie Goode and his siblings William Younger, Charles Younger , Harold Younger, and Mary Alice Woods.
He is preceded in death by his parents, 4 sisters, 1 brother, and son Jim Younger. He graduated from the University of Alabama with a Bachelor degree and a Juris Doctor. He was appointed District Attorney and served in that capacity from 1961-1966. He served as Madison County Circuit Court Judge for a total of 29 years until his retirement in 1995, giving him the distinction of serving longer than any other Circuit Judge in the history of the 23rd Judicial Circuit. He served 45 years in the Army both active and reserve, retiring as a Judge Advocate General officer with a rank of full Colonel. He was a dedicated husband, father and friend.
Visitation will be Saturday September 13th at Willowbrook Baptist Church at 11am followed by the funeral service at 1 pm. Burial will follow in Maple Hill Cemetery.
