Thomas Michael Watkins, age 78, of Lewisburg, Tennessee, died Tuesday, January 7, 2025, at his residence surrounded by his loving family.
Mike was born August 30, 1946, in Lewisburg, Tennessee, to the late William and Mary Toone Watkins. He was employed by Maury Regional Medical Center in the Environmental Services department. He retired from the Marshall County Board of Education in Environmental Services and worked with the Marshall County Civil Defense and the Lewisburg Auxiliary Police. He proudly served in the United States Army where he was awarded several medals.
Mike was a Godly man who loved the Lord, his family (especially his grandchildren), his many friends and fishing. Mike could often be found in his boat fishing and spending time with his fishing buddies. Everyone who knew Mike can attest to his attention to being punctual! He would often look at his watch and point out the time to remind others it was time to get to work or move on. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Jerry, Ricky and Bobby Watkins.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Edith Mae Shelton Watkins of Lewisburg; daughter, Heather (Phillip) Stafford of Lewisburg; grandchildren, Debra M. Slayton (Sean) of Fairview and Curtis L. Slayton of Lewisburg; great grandson Grayson A. Jones of Fairview; sisters, Patsy (Bill) Brown of Mississippi, Catha Reese of Columbia, Sharon Hargrove, Becky Peete, and Millie (Marty) Middleton all of Lewisburg, and Sandy (Richard) Fleck of Cornersville; brother Jimmy Watkins of Columbia; in-laws, Mary (Jimmy) Weldon of Columbia, Carrie (James) Vernon of Lynnville, Ross (Connie) Pullen of Columbia; Donna Watkins; nephew Michael Weldon of Cornersville as well as several other nieces and nephews; two step grandchildren.
Visitation with the family will be held at London Funeral Home, 324 West Church Street, Lewisburg, Tennessee, on Monday, January 13, 2025, from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm.
Funeral Service will be conducted by Phil Mash and Tom Herring on Tuesday, January 14, 2025, at 1:00 pm from the Chapel of London Funeral Home with burial to follow in Philadelphia Cemetery. Chris King, Bob McClain, Michael Weldon, Taylor Brewer, Ross Pullen and Phil Sharp will serve as pallbearers. Employees of Maury Regional Hospital will serve as honorary pallbearers.
