Thomas M. Cawley was born June 26, 1930 in Saint Louis, MO.
He was united in marriage to Dollie Sue Jaggars on December 16, 1967. Mrs. Cawley preceded him in death on September 30, 1974. After his wife’s passing, at the young age of 33, Tom worked hard and raised 3 young children.
Tom embraced life’s adventures. At the age of five, he helped sell newspapers for Father Dunne’s News Boys’ Home in St. Louis, MO. He worked on a dude ranch in Colorado and washed windows before serving his country in the United States Navy for 20 years, retiring as a Senior Chief Petty Officer. While serving in the Navy, he lived in many different places in the world and his favorite place to be was Okinawa, Japan where he lived for two years.
His dedication to education led him to attain a bachelor’s degree in accounting and became a CPA. He had worked several accounting jobs including Memphis Bank and Trust, St. Jude Hospital, Tyrone Hydraulic, as well as the City of Germantown, TN. He retired from the City of Germantown as an Accounting Supervisor. His passion for numbers continued as he later contributed his skills at H&R Block, finding enjoyment in the complexities of tax preparation. Tom also pursued further education, working towards a master’s degree, and spent time in Mexico for Spanish immersion, enriching his love for the Spanish language.
Tom lived a vibrant and fulfilling life. He was a devoted member of the Church of Christ and an active participant in Toastmasters International. His diverse interests included golfing, flying, playing chess, solving crosswords and Sudoku, and engaging in games of bridge and pool. He was known for his keen mind and participating actively in physical fitness.
Mr. Cawley departed this life on October 28, 2024 in Dothan , Alabama at the age of 94 Years, 1 Month, 2 Days.
He is survived by two daughters, Michele Lynn and husband William and children Hunter and Courtney, Dollie Shenandoah Abdol and husband Amir and children Cori, Connor and Cameron; a son, Phillip Cawley and children, Joshua and Zachary; a brother, Bill Cawley; and a host of other relatives and friends.
In addition to his wife Dollie, Mr. Cawley was preceded in death by his mother, Lillian Cawley McMillan; a sister, Mary Ann Cawley; and a brother, Joe Cawley.
