Thomas J. Sheehan, 78, of Spring Hill, TN, died on Saturday, October 26, 2024, after an extended illness. A Funeral Mass to celebrate Tom’s life will be held at 3 PM, Friday, November 15, 2024, at the Catholic Church of the Nativity, 2793 Buckner Lane, Thompson’s Station, TN.
Tom was born in Long Branch, NJ, and raised in Leonardo, NJ. He graduated from Red Bank Catholic High School, Saint Joseph’s University, and Fairleigh Dickinson University. He was employed in numerous technical and managerial positions at Fort Monmouth for 34 years, retiring as Associate Director for Operations at the Research Development and Engineering Center in 2001. During his time at Fort Monmouth, he was awarded the Department of the Army Meritorious Civilian Service Award (1996). He served as President of the Fort Monmouth Chapter of the Armed Forces Communications Electronics Association (AFCEA) and as a member of the Board of Directors of the Garden State Chapter of the Association of Old Crows.
Since retirement, he has devoted many hours to woodworking and furniture making.
He is a past member of several organizations in the Little Egg Harbor area of New Jersey (where he spent much of his retirement before moving to Tennessee in 2022), including the Great Bay Paddlers Club, the Father Duffy Division of the Ancient Order of Hibernians, Knights of Columbus Council 14615 at St. Theresa Church, and the National Active and Retired Federal Employees Chapter 1182, Southern Ocean County NJ.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Ghislaine, and his sons, daughters-in-laws, and granddaughters; Timothy, Jennifer, and Caitlin of Franklin, TN and Daniel, Elizabeth, and Amelia of Lexington, KY. He is also survived by his sister, Sheila Lord of Jensen Beach FL.
He was predeceased by his parents Rita and P. Joseph Sheehan of Leonardo, NJ, and his brother-in-law, John Lord (Sheila).
