Thomas Grant Steele, Jr. affectionately known as “Bue, Grant & Sonny” to many. He departed this life on January 31, 2024, at the age of 77 years old, after a brief illness at the Hospice Family Care Center in Huntsville, Alabama.
Thomas was born on January 15, 1947, to the late Grant Steele and Maudie Mason Steele. Thomas accepted Jesus Christ as his personal savior at an early age at the Red Bank Missionary Baptist Church of Town Creek, Alabama. He was a retired employee of G.E. Appliances in Decatur, AL.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Fredricka Qualls Steele; sister, Roberta Steele; two brothers, Michael Mason, and Ronnie Mason; a grandson, Timothy Watkins Jr.
He leaves to cherish his memories:
four children, Maudie (Wanda) Steele Watkins of Decatur, AL, Veeta Steele of Decatur, AL, Reginald Langham of Leighton, AL, and Thomas Ryan Qualls (Daphne) of Harvest, AL; two stepsons, William Thackston (Tangelia) of Decatur, AL, and Gregory O’Neal Thackston II (Liz) of Madison, AL; his mother, Maudie Mason Steele of Tuscumbia, AL; grandchildren, Timothy Watkins III, Tameron Watkins, Tashanti Watkins, all of Decatur, AL, Tristan Qualls, Jaylen Qualls, Thomas Qualls Jr., all of Harvest, AL, and Olandria Carthen of Houston, TX; step grandchildren, Krya Thackston of Phoenix, AZ, Maddie Thackston of Portland, OR, Gregory Thackston II of Madison, AL, Brittany Miller of Huntsville, AL, Christopher Thackston, Philip Thackston, and Jermaine Fox, three great grandchildren, Imani Garth, Dalla Watkins, and T’ynnie Watkins; three brothers, Steven (Glean) Steele of Killeen, Tx, David (Min. Marsha) Steele of Norton, VA, and Kender Steele of Tuscumbia, AL; five sisters, Shirley Steele, Sarah Steele, Min. Gizzell Steele Sherrod (Larry), Margie Steele Spangler (James), all of Town Creek, AL, and Rosie Steele Bates (Anthony) Sheffield, AL; brother-in-law, Tyrone Qualls; sisters-in-laws, Aboline Mason and Jacqulin (Jessie) Qualls; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many friends.
