Thomas Gerald Stratton Jr., affectionately known as “Jerry”, was born March 6th, 1954 in Spangler, Pennsylvania to parents Ruth and Jerry Stratton Sr. He passed away June 22, 2024 at his home in Montgomery, Alabama at the age of 70. But those are only numbers, dates, imaginary points of reference. His life, the space between those numbers was the important part.

Jerry was a fantastically headstrong, stubborn individual who could be quite about his emotions, yet always loved deeply. From a childhood spent playing baseball in the streets of Baltimore, Maryland to a young man studying history at the University of Alabama, to an adult who worked hard in the insurance industry and sought peace in many a forest as an accomplished hunter, Jerry lived a wonderfully full life.

His legacy will be carried on by his daughter, Erica Stratton of Apalachicola, Florida and two sons, Clay and Cole Stratton of Montgomery, Alabama. He delighted in his singular grandchild, Martin Langford, also of Apalachicola, Florida. His sister, Sallie Stratton Cash, and his brother, Wayne “Butch” Stratton, will miss him terribly, for as the big brother he was often the glue of the family. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews and many beloved cousins.

Jerry joins his parents, Ruth and Jerry Stratton Sr. in glory as we can only imagine the love that received him back into Heaven’s embrace. His services will be held this Sunday, June 30th at the Scottsboro Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 1pm-3pm with his service beginning at 3pm. Jerry will be laid to rest at Pinehaven Memorial Gardens following the service.

To say that Jerry will be missed is a gross understatement. His passing will leave a void that can never be filled. His laugh and mischievous grin, which was often reflected in his bright green eyes, will stay with us as echos of his love for us and life.
