Funeral Services for Mr. Thomas Eugene “Gene” Carroll, age 82 of Cragford, will be held on Sunday, July 7, 2024 at Corinth Baptist Church at 3:00 P.M. with Rev. Larry Cummings, Rev. Harold McCain, and Rev. Kenneth Fuller officiating. Burial will follow in the adjoining cemetery.
Mr. Carroll passed away on Thursday, July 4, 2024 at Brookwood Medical Center in Birmingham. Mr. Gene was born in Birmingham, moved to the country with his family at the age of 8, and while in his youth worked at local grocery stores in the stock room and would also repair tires. He worked on the farm with his family, and was taught to plow the fields. After graduating from Mellow Valley High school, he did appliance repair for Tallapoosa Electric Cooperative, but eventually found his calling with Alabama Power. He worked there for 41 years as a Crew Forman. Mr. Gene spent his time turkey and deer hunting, enjoyed fishing with Bro. Zenus Windsor, and even ran several chicken houses with his family. He was witty and funny, teasing and picking on his lovely bride and children all the time. He loved spending time with his family and friends, was an amazing story teller, and enjoyed singing Gospel and county music. It was important to Mr. Gene that his family attended church every Sunday; he was an example of Christian faith, and sharing the Gospel to those in need was of upmost importance. His family claims that he had read through the Bible a total of 25 times front to back. Mr. Carroll was a member and deacon of Corinth Baptist Church.
Mr. Carroll is survived by his loving wife of almost 64 years, Nonnie Carroll of Cragford; two daughters: Laura Taylor (Rob) of Cragford and alias Bennett (Andy) of Ashland; two sons: Anthony “Tony” Carroll (Mitzi) of Daytona, FL and Sonny Carroll (Lori) of Cragford; 7 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren; one sister, Brenda Johnson (Johnny) of Ashland; one brother, Kenneth “Kent” Carroll (Gail) of Lanett; plus a host of nieces, nephews and extended family.
He was preceded in death by his parents: L.G. and Velma Burgess Carroll; one daughter, Kimberly Carroll; three sisters: Carol Carroll, Maurine Brewer, and Linda Cullars; and one brother, Don Carroll.
Active Pallbearers will be Mike Brewer, Tim Carroll, Hilton Young, Cameron Carroll, Corey Cox, Mike Martin, Brandon Moore, Gage Edmondson, Tanner Edmondson, and Chase Carroll.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Andy Bennett, Timothy farrow, T.C. Colley, Paul Wellborn, John Wellborn, Joel McMath, Al McMath, Phil Padgett, Steven Strain, Adam Hanvey, Stephen Wellborn, Chris Cullars, Jamie Walker, Bo McCormick, and Robert Young.
His visitation will take place on Sunday, July 7, 2024 at Corinth Baptist Church from 1:30 P.M. until service time at 3:00 P.M.
