  Thomas Clay WalesThomas Clay Wales, 82 of Athens, passed away on Monday, December 18th, 2023, at Madison Hospital. Mr. Wales was born on March 21st, 1941, in Athens, to Howard Wales, Sr. and Mary Virgie Tillery Wales.

Mr. Wales is survived by his wife Betty Jones Wales, children Jan Sanborn and Jeff Wales (Julie); grandchildren Clay Wales (Kelsey), Sara Wales, Matt Sanborn (Betony), and Jessica Smalling (Will); 2 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents; siblings Ruth Helen Powers, Howard Wales, Jr., Lorene Smith, and Curtis Wales; and niece Kim Jones.

Funeral services for Mr. Wales will be Thursday, December 21st, 2023, at 2:00pm at Limestone Chapel Funeral Home, with Robert Fudge, Carl Witty, and Matt Lannom officiating. Visitation will be Thursday from 11:00am to 1:45pm at the funeral home. Burial will be at Gatlin Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Clay Wales, Matt Sanborn, Chris Whitt, Steve Hardiman, Rickey Smith, Adam Barnett, Bruce Nelson, and Steve Lovell.

Mr. Wales worked at Wolverine for 36 years. He sang with the Harmony Boys Quartet for many years. He loved fishing, singing, Alabama football, and Braves baseball.
