FLORENCE – It was a riot, that’s for sure… Lots of folks turned up at the Florence/Lauderdale Public Library this past Saturday to rumble through some great stories found in literature.
Here’s what their web page said about the event, “The Shoals area is known for music, but that doesn’t mean that’s the only art we have. The Reader Riot book festival is our way of showing how excited we are about books and stories, the characters in them, and the characters who write them. We are here to panhandle poetry, nuke you with nonfiction, and light a fire under literature. Shoals readers are ready to riot. Who’s with us?” Evidently quite a few folks were with them! There was a great lineup of authors who gave some insight into their process. CLICK HERE for the list.
Our personal favorite was a talk given by musician, studio owner, and producer Norbert Putnam. Putnam has just released is musical biography, “Music Lessons”, a great read on the early history of Muscle Shoals Music, and his life with Elvis, Jimmy Buffett, Dan Fogelberg, Joan Baez, Linda Ronstadt and many, many more great singers and musicians.
The Quad-Cities Daily was on hand to take some EVENT PHOTOS. We present them here.
