Theodore W. Barton Jr., known to friends and family as Ted, passed away on July 29, 2024, at the age of 87 in Huntsville, AL. Born on June 27, 1937, in Waterford, PA, Ted’s life was marked by dedication to his family, service to his country, and a passion for the arts and adventure.

Ted honorably served in the Navy for 12 years. During his tenure, he was stationed on the USS Oriskany (CVA-34) as an air traffic controller, where he skillfully managed the complex ballet of aircraft taking off and landing, a testament to his precision and calm under pressure.

After his military service, Ted completed his working career in Federal Government law enforcement. He also found joy and community in the arts and outdoor activities. He was an active member of the Island Players in St. Simons Island, GA, where he both directed and acted in community theater productions. An avid motorcyclist, Ted enjoyed exploring the open road on his Harley Davidson alongside his brother and friends from the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center in Brunswick, GA.

Ted is survived by his beloved wife, Rebecca Barton; his children, Steven (Debra) and Jacki; four grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren. He also leaves behind his brothers, James R. Barton (Dorothy) and Lloyd F. Barton (MaryLyn), and his sister, Barbara A. (Barton) Petrick. He was predeceased by his parents, Theodore W. Barton Sr. and Cornelia L. (McKay) Barton, and his brother, Jerold R. Barton.

The Barton family will gather to honor Ted’s life at Laughlin Service Funeral Home, located at 2320 Bob Wallace Ave SW, Huntsville, AL. A family viewing will be held from 9:00 to 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, August 3rd, followed by a public viewing from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. The funeral service will commence immediately after the viewing at 10:30 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to a charity of one’s choice in Ted’s memory. This gesture reflects Ted’s generous spirit and commitment to community support.

Laughlin Service Funeral Home in Huntsville, AL, is assisting the family during this time, ensuring that Ted’s legacy is honored and remembered with the utmost respect and care.
