Thelma Ruth Dennis Eakes, 97, of Fayetteville was born on August 16, 1926 to Jordon and Tinnie Ruby Shadrick Dennis. She departed her earthly home on December 28, 2023. Thelma was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Columbus “Gumby” Lincoln Eakes, her sons, Leon, Dwight, Jeff, Larry, Danny, and her daughters, Barbara Ann Eakes, Linda Faye Bailey, and Tammy Ruth Williams.
Thelma is survived by her beloved children: Mary Jo Clark, Jeraldine Alford, Diane (Ricky) Sells and David Eakes. She had 30 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.
Thelma was a hard working mother, farmer’s wife, and factory worker. There was nothing she cherished more than her family and beloved dog, Blackie. She had a green thumb and could make a weed blossom into a gorgeous flower garden. She enjoyed Sunday dinners with a house full of children and grandchildren. She spent her life making people laugh with her fiesty personality.
She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
The family will receive friends on Saturday beginning at 10am at Hazel Green Funeral Home. Funeral services will follow at Noon at the funeral home. Burial will be in Plainview Cemetery and will follow the chapel service.
