Thelma Jane Houston GilbertThelma Jane Houston Gilbert was born on May 27th, 1956 in Giles County, TN to the late Charlie Houston and Alma Hobson Houston. She was the third youngest of eleven children. She departed this life on Sunday, October 22nd, 2023 at Southern Tennessee Regional Health Systems in Pulaski, TN surrounded by her two loving daughters Carmita Davis and Cissy Fox, along with a host of loved ones.

She was baptized at an early age at Old Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church. She later joined the Tabernacle Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Cornell Martin. Thelma enjoyed singing in the choir and doing arts and crafts.

She received primary education at Anthony Hill School, and later graduated from Bodenham High School in 1975.

Thelma was employed by Southern Tennessee Regional Health System for many years only to retire when her health declined. She was a light to all who encountered her and was affectionately known as “Ms. Thelma”.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, October 26th, 2023 from 3:00pm to 6:00pm at Bennett-May & Pierce Funeral Home and Crematory.
A graveside service will take place on Friday, October 27th, 2023 at 1:00pm at Maplewood Cemetery in Pulaski, TN.

To her nieces and nephews, she was known to be the fun “Auntie” and was loved by all.

Preceding Thelma Jane Houston Gilbert in her death are her parents Charlie and Alma Houston. Her brother, Charlie Houston Jr. Sisters: Ann Coleman, Ruth Gilbert, and Pearl Hammonds.

Thelma Jane Houston Gilbert is survived by, her two devoted daughters, Carmita (Kowi) Davis and Cissy (Christopher) Fox. Grandchildren, Avery Fox, Xavier Humphey, and Briana Alexander. Loving brothers; Larry Houston, Michael (Jennie) Houston, Dennis (LaQuita) Houston, and Thomas Houston. Loving sisters: Barbara Howard, Donna Houston, and Beverly Crook. A host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
She will be missed by her beloved pet, Buddy.
