Mrs. Thelma Georgene Martin, age 93, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, January 31, 2021. She passed away peacefully of natural causes at NHC in McMinnville, TN. Thelma was born in Van Buren County on December 10, 1927 to late George Leoton Delong and Dema Esta McCoy. Thelma was a member of Mt. Elim Baptist Church. She loved her family deeply, and she will be missed by many. Thelma was a dedicated and active community member in Spencer, TN. She was the Van Buren County grand jury foreman for 13 years, fair board member, a senior companion, worked in the high school library, poll worker for the election commission and worked with the Long Cemetery Board.
In addition to her parents, Thelma was preceded in death by her dear husband, Sydney Rayburn Martin, who passed away in 2005. They were united in marriage on August 9, 1947. Brother; William Burton Delong.
Thelma is survived by her loving son, Sidney (Paulette) Burton Martin, as well as five grandchildren Chad Martin, Jania Martin, Dawn Geibel, Casey (Chris) Jebelian, and Adam Martin, nine great-grandchildren Timothy, Kendra, Skylan, Harley, Logan, Silas, Ayden, Hunter, Brooklyn, and three great great-grandchildren Truett, Branch, Colt.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday February 3, 2021 at 2:00pm in the Layne Chapel with Bro. Nathan Haynes and Bro. Bob McCoy officiating. Burial will follow in the Long Cemetery. Visitation will be on Tuesday 1:00pm to 9:00pm and Wednesday 10:00am to time of service at 2:00pm.
