Thelma Boyd, a beloved member of the Lawrenceburg, Tennessee community, passed away peacefully in her home on August 16, 2024. She was born on April 18, 1936, to the late Roy P. Davis and Lela Mae Clifton Belew Davis in Lawrenceburg, Tennessee.
Thelma enjoyed playing basketball in school. She was an avid bowler who served as the secretary-treasurer for the league. She was also highly skilled at needlepoint, creating beautiful pieces that reflected her attention to detail and creativity; often winning awards at the Middle-Tennessee District Fair.
Her love for gardening was evident in the vibrant flowers that surrounded her home. Thelma took great pride in her garden, nurturing it with care and enjoying the beauty it brought to her life.
Thelma’s faith was a cornerstone of her life. While living in Michigan, she served many years as a bible school teacher and worked with the youth group at her church alongside her husband, Gene. She also served as a member of the Michigan Christian College Associates (Rochester College), responsible for fundraising to further Christian education. After returning to Lawrenceburg, she became a devoted member of New Prospect Church of Christ for many years.
Thelma was a loving mother, grandmother, and sister, cherishing the time she spent with her family. She is survived by her children Stephen Boyd (Donna), Melissa Rochelle, and Shelley Boyd; Twin sister Velma Cothern, and sisters Jane Koelsch and Marie Holguin. Grandchildren include: Amanda, Will, Jim, Emily, Mark, Hank, Christy, Luke, Lindsay, Sam, Stephanie and Melissa; as well 23 great-grandchildren, 5 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Gene, her daughter Nancy Boyd Reedy (Ken) and grandson Hank Rochelle and siblings Clifford Belew, Wilson Belew, Carl Davis, Charlene Holt, Imogene Robertson, Mary Frances Chaffin, Tresia McWhirter and Patsy Shelton.
A memorial service for Thelma will be held Tuesday, August 20, 2024 at 11:00 AM at New Prospect Church of Christ in Lawrenceburg, Tennessee.
