Funeral Services for Mr. Terry G. Dison, age 72 of Alexander City, will be held Monday, November 13, 2023 at Benefield Funeral Home in Ashland at 12:00 P.M. Burial will follow at Midway Memorial Gardens in Talladega. His visitation will take place from 11:00 A.M. until service time at 12:00 P.M.
Mr. Dison passed away on Friday, November 10, 2023 at Baptist Medical Center South in Montgomery. He was born in Talladega, and as a young man played baseball at Hal Henderson High School. He began working in the Wehadkee Cotton Mill until he started his transportation career. He was a truck driver for over 40 years, driving for companies like Osbourne, Dixie Land, and Floyd Beasley to name a few. He drove a truck until 2007, and then worked in security for The Ridge in Alexander City until September. As a young man, Mr. Dison enjoyed horsing around and going to drag races with his brother and also rebuilt motors and was a pretty good skier. In his later years, he enjoyed the simple life; drinking coffee, smoking a cigarette, listening to Bob Segar or all kinds of music, and watching Westerns. He found peace by sitting on his front porch swing, listening to the sounds of the whippoorwill tree. His family describes him as family oriented man, with a slight temper, and enjoyed life to the fullest. His family came first, and he loved to make people laugh.
Mr. Dison is survived by his wife, Gina Lynn Wade Dison of Alexander City; his children: Kevin G. Dison of Gulf Shores, Carrie Gable (Cory) of Childersburg, Joni Dison (Chad Rawls) of Fayette, Shannon Heath Dison of Eastaboga, Miranda Lynn Dison and Marilyn Sky Dison, both of Alexander City; 10 grandchildren: Cassie Gable (Brandon), Jessie Dison (Harley), Brianna McWilliams (Chase), Lauren Dison, Johnathan Gunner Tims, Tuffer Gable, Savannah Gable, Emma Graham, Marley Mask, and Delilah Dison; 7 great-grandchildren: Major, Waylon, Sophie, Landon, Logan, Mackenzie, and Skylar; one sister, Karen Alexander (Garland) of Talladega; one brother, Danny Dison (Joyce) of Talladega; his Uncle, Charles Kendricks of Munford; his Aunt, Ome Turner of Alexander City; his children’s mother: Susan Bowen and Sharon Brown; plus a host of nieces, nephews, and a large extended family.
He was preceded in death by his parents: Junior Dison and Clara “Bo” Edmondson; one son, Darrell Dison; and Kevin and Darrells mother, Mary Elmore.
Active Pallbearers will be Kevin Dison, Cory Gable, Carrie Gable, Chad Rawls, Dusty Dison, Daniel Dison, Garland Alexander, Brian Alexander, and Miles Skaggs. Honorary Pallbearers will be his brother, Danny Dison.
Benefield Funeral Home in Ashland is in charge of arrangements.
