Terry C. Woodis Jr. – Obituary

TerryMr. Terry C. Woodis Jr., of Florence, passed away at his home on Sunday, June 30, 2013, at 4 p.m. after a brief illness. He was born Sept. 20, 1924, in Alsboro, Ala. and was a long time member of Westminster Presbyterian Church where he served as a deacon and elder, taught Sunday school, and was a youth leader. He served in the United States Army in World War IIunder General George S. Patton during his time in the European theater of operations. He graduated from Florence State Teachers College (now the University of North Alabama) and taught one year at Colbert County High School before joining the Tennessee Valley Authority and serving as an Analytical Chemist and Research Chemist for 31 years. Mr. Woodis retired at the age of 57 and went to work in the Philippines for the International Fertilizer Development Center; he was well known in the fertilizer field for his numerous publications on analytical procedures. He enjoyed golfing, gardening, cooking and was known among his friends as being a wonderful chef. Mr. Woodis will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Mr. Woodis was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Dean Woodis; daughter, Lee Ann Woodis; parents, Mr. and Mrs. T.C. Woodis Sr.; brother, Kenneth Woodis.

He is survived by a son, Mike Terry Woodis and wife, Sammy, of Texas; brothers, Wayne Woodis and wife, Linda, Raymond Woodis and wife, Edna, all of Florence; sister, Mary Sandlin, of Indiana; sister-in-law, Judy Woodis; nieces and nephews; and his caregiver and best friend of 15 years, Marilyn Crowell.

Visitation will be at the Westminster Presbyterian Church, Florence, on Wednesday, July 3, 2013, from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m., with the funeral service immediately following at the church with the Rev. Richard Gillespie and the Rev. Jim Thompson officiating. Burial will be in Greenview Memorial Park.

Pallbearers will be Bob Howard, Joe Salter, MQ Parker, Nick Winn, Bill Valentine and John Offutt.
