ATHENS-Our waterways are a very important resource for the residents of Limestone County. Our rivers supply our drinking water, recreation opportunities, habitats for wildlife, and natural beauty for our peaceful enjoyment.

Sadly, our waterways are disrespected by some who use them as trash dumps. You can find old TVs, tires, and trash of all kinds along the roadways leading to the water, at boat launch sites, and in the river itself.

On Saturday, March 25, 2023, Keep Athens-Limestone Beautiful (KALB) and the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) are calling all volunteers for a concentrated cleanup of the areas along the Tennessee River in southern Limestone County.

CLEANUP DETAILS
Volunteers will work in teams. Boats, canoes, and kayaks are welcomed so cleanup can also take place along shorelines from the water. Most cleanup areas are away from traffic, so this is a great opportunity to involve youth.

Time: 8:00 a.m. to Noon

Meeting Location: Cowford Campground located at 8700 Cowford Rd. Volunteers will meet to register and receive supplies and instructions. Hold harmless agreements must be signed and can be provided in advance to those who request them. Forms will alsobe available at the cleanup. Volunteers under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult and have a hold harmless agreement signed by a parent or guardian, which can be done in advance of the cleanup.
