Telette Turney Roberts, age 85, passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 10, 2017 at Summerford Nursing Home. She was born on Dec. 7, 1931 to Edgar F. and Minnie Turney in Decatur where she spent her life. Telette was an agent for the Standard Mutual Life Insurance Company, and worked for many years as bookkeeper for the Royal Crown Bottling Company. She was a lifelong member of Ninth Street United Methodist Church. Telette’s many interests included gardening, travel to Hawaii, square dancing and genealogy–her extensive genealogy research was recently donated to the Morgan County Genealogical Society. She loved all animals and gave a wonderful home to many stray dogs and cats over the years. Telette was happiest when surrounded by her family, and she took tremendous pride in her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Telette was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 56 years, Charles (Tom) Roberts; cherished grandson, Mac Sanders; her parents and a sister, Azalee Baker. Left to honor Telette and to remember her love are children, Charles T. Roberts, Jr. (Darlene), David K. Roberts and Jan Sanders (Mark); grandchildren, Laura Stewart (Marc), Todd Roberts (Amelia), Andrea Richardson (Joe), Jennifer Marquette (James) and Mac Sanders, great-grandchildren, Sean Roberts, Erin Magruder, Jacob Magruder (Chi), Hampton Roberts, Hudson Roberts, Bailey Marquette and Brianna Marquette; and a niece, Joyce McKay.
The family would like to thank the wonderful staff at Decatur Morgan Hospital, Brookdale Senior Living and Summerford Nursing Home for their loving care of our dear Mother at the end of her life. Funeral services will be conducted by Brother Eric Maddox at Roselawn Funeral Home, 741 Danville Rd. SW, Decatur, AL 35601 on Wednesday, June 14th. The family will greet friends from 1 to 2 p.m. with graveside service at Roselawn Mausoleum at 2:15 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorials be made in Telette’s name to the Humane Society or to your local animal shelter.
