Sylvia Doris RubleyMs. Sylvia D. Rubley, age 73, of Murfreesboro, TN, died Tuesday, July 23, 2024, at Ascension
Saint Thomas Rutherford Hospital. She was born August 19, 1950 in McMinnville, TN and was
the first of three daughters born to Kenneth D. Pedigo and Verna Dean Barnes Pedigo, both of
whom preceded her in death.
Sylvia moved to Murfreesboro, TN at the age of 36 to attend MTSU and begin her pursuit in
Speech and Language Pathology with an emphasis on Communication Disorders, eventually
earning her Master’s Degree from Western Kentucky University in 1991. She worked in the
public school systems of both Rutherford and Cannon Counties. She was offered an opportunity
to work with the children of Kodiak, Alaska in 1999, and enjoyed calling Alaska home for 4 and a
half years prior to returning to Middle Tennessee. Her quiet, soft spoken demeanor and patience
made her a wonderful and gifted speech pathologist to children with a variety of learning
challenges, many of whom she still kept in touch with. Her philosophy was, “all children can
learn with love and support for the individual within them.”
She was preceded in death by her step-mother, Myrna Hobbs Pedigo, and the father of her
