Sylvia Carter Barkley, lifetime resident of Ripley, went to be with her Lord and Savior on her 95th birthday, March 24, 2023.  Services honoring the life of Mrs. Carter will be Sunday, March 26, 2023, in the Heritage Chapel of Ripley Funeral Home, with Bro. Dudley Waddle officiating.  Burial will follow at Tippah Memorial Gardens.  Visitation will be Sunday from 11AM until time of service.

A devout Christian, she was born in Tippah County, the daughter of Lewis and Vera Mae Dixon.  Her faith was a reflection of her unselfish life as a wife, mother, granny, sister and aunt.  Mrs. Barkley was a faithful member of First Baptist Church in Ripley where she enjoyed singing in the choir and fellowshipping every chance she got.

Some of her favorite pastimes include making homemade fried peach pies for the grandkids, scratching around in her yard at any hour of the day, tending her tomato plants and making sure she was well groomed, even if she wasn’t going anywhere.

Those left to cherish her memories include her husband, Robert Barkley, two daughters, Rita Lindsey Robinson (Donald) and Laura Love (Bobby), one son, James Barkley (Pam), one sister, Jane Rowland, two grandchildren, and three great grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by two brothers, Donald Carter and Eugene Carter and one sister, Nora Davis.

Ripley Funeral Home invites you to share memories with Mrs. Sylvias family.
