Syd graduated from Sheffield High School, where he played basketball, baseball, and threw discus for the track and field team. He also performed with the school chorus. Syd played baseball at the University of Alabama, where he was a member of the “A” Club. He worked as a land surveyor for fifty years at Alexander Surveying and Mapping and was a member of the Alabama Society of Professional Land Surveyors. Syd was preceded in death by his parents, Sydney and Sara Alexander.
Syd is survived by his loving wife of twenty-six years, Patricia Alexander; sons, Matthew Alexander, Marcus Alexander (Marcia), and Jimmy Hutchens (Michelle); brother, Jamey Alexander (Diane); grandchildren, Sydni, Zoey, and Isaac Alexander, and Chase Hutchens; nephews, Nic Alexander (Walker) and Todd Alexander (Alexandra); great-niece, Meredith Alexander; and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Pallbearers will be Dalton Broussard, Curtis Burns, Phil Hargett, Wesley Slay, William Hovater, Nic Alexander, and Todd Alexander. Rusty Nelson, Johnny Wright, and Earl Rutledge will serve as honorary pallbearers.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the animal shelter of your choice, or to Chloe’s Fund.
