SHEFFIELD-Around 3:30Pm on Wednesday the Sheffield Police Department, Sheffield Fire and Rescue along with Colbert County Sheriff’s Deputies, Alabama State Troopers, Colbert County EMA and members of the Colbert County Dive Team are searching and area near Eagle Point and the Village Boat ramp in Sheffield looking for a swimmer who did not resurface after jumping into the river.

According to Sheriff Eric Balentine the swimmer jumper into the water and got into trouble friends tried to rescue him but were unable to save the young man. After investigation Sheriff Balentine says the swimmer was from out of town and possibly was not a strong swimmer.
At the time of this posting the name and age of the lost swimmer are not known.
The swimmers body was recovered right off the point near the Village Boat ramp in Spring Creek at Eagle Point.
