Suzanne Maulsby Luker

Suzanne Maulsby Luker, 79, of Ashland, AL passed away peacefully at home on Friday, May 13th. Suzanne was born September 30th, 1942 to Gilbert and Laurnel Maulsby in Anniston, AL. She graduated from Tift High School in Tifton, GA and North Georgia College in Dahlonega, GA before embarking on a career dedicated to customer service across multiple industries.

In late 1968, she met Max Luker, and two short months later they were married. She often said life was never dull after that. They shared a wonderful marriage for 51 years until his death in 2020, and have one daughter, Laura, who thinks she was blessed with the best parents ever. Suzanne was delighted to add a son-in-law, Jeff Doe, when Laura married, and gained three “Grands” in the process, Austin, Britney and Jacob.

Suzanne enjoyed reading, gardening, and all things floral, sewing, traveling, and was an amazing cook. She loved her family unconditionally, gave her time and energy to her church and church family, and participated in many civic and social clubs throughout her life. After hearing a presentation at a club meeting, she saw a need for helping food challenged children and was instrumental in starting the BackPack Snack program in Clay County, providing weekend food assistance to those in need.

Suzanne was preceded in death by her beloved husband Benny Max Luker, her parents G.O. and Lauranel Maulsby, and her brother-in-law Jimmy Luker.

She is survived by her daughter Laura Luker Doe (Jeff) of Birmingham, AL, brother Gilbert Maulsby (Shari) of Columbus, GA, sister Martha Greene (Randy) of Gainesville, GA and sister-in-law Sue Luker Griffin (Paulk) of Ashland, AL; her nieces Hayley Maulsby, Dee Maulsby, Joy Dillow (Tony), and Leah Luker (Jim Stout) and nephews Bert Maulsby (Suzy), Adam Greene (Melissa), Nathan Greene (Dori), Tim Maulsby (Rebekah), and Austin Luker (Stormy) and their families; and her “Grands” Austin Kilpatrick (Vanessa), Britney Knox (Garrett), and Jacob Doe, plus five “GreatGrands” whom she adored.

A service celebrating the memory of Suzanne will be held at the Ashland First United Methodist Church on Saturday, June 4th at 12:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Ashland First United Methodist Church “BackPack Snacks”, or to the church itself. 219 E 1 Ave, Ashland, AL 36251
