Suzanne Darlene Nolen

Suzie, a Huntsville native, passed from this life, April 2, 2017, at Crestwood Hospital.

She is survived by her husband, John Michael Bennett; her parents, Charles and Shirley Nolen, of Huntsville; her brother, Scott Nolen, of California; two nieces and two nephews, who are the children of Michael R. Gifford and the late Shannon Nolen Gifford; and host of relatives and friends.

Suzie was a renowned musician and worked professionally as a keyboard player and singer. She often performed solo and played in several prominent local and regional bands, including Lighthouse, Tuxedo Junction, and Miami Sound Machine. Suzie was an award winning poet. Her poem, “We are Gathered Here Today”, was written in 1998 as a tribute to a dear family friend, won first place in the WLRH poetry contest. Her love and support for animals and care for those less fortunate are well documented. Suzie had a true love for things of the South; iced tea, tomatoes, cornbread, gardenias and walking on sandy beaches.

She was bright and shining star in our lives and her presence will be deeply missed.

Interment will be at a later date. Berryhill Funeral Home is assisting the family.
