ATHENS-Athens Police Chief Floyd Johnson released a statement concerning the arrest of a suspect on sexual abuse of a minor:
“Last night investigators Brett Constable and Jonathan Caldwell arrested Tyler Jerome Davenport for sexual abuse of a child under 12 years of age.
Yesterday afternoon the police department received a complaint of possible sexual abuse from a relative of the offender. The victim in this case is 9 years old and is a cousin of the offender.
Further investigation revealed Davenport which is 18 years old had inappropriately touched a 6 year old female relative. Davenport was booked at the police department and transferred to the county jail.
Davenport has been charged with one count of sexual abuse of a child under 12 years of age. The victim is 9 years old. As of this time we only have one victim, however our investigation in this case will be continuing.
Our department and The Department of Human Resources are continuing to investigate this case.”
