FLORENCE-On March 12, 2022, Shoals Ambulance Service was transporting Matthew Markley to The North Alabama Medical Center. A Shoals Ambulance Service employee was riding in the back of the ambulance with Markley. As the ambulance crossed Shoals Creek Bridge into Florence, Markley became disorderly and started hitting the employee. The ambulance pulled over and they called the Police to assist them with Markley. Once officers arrived Markley stopped being combative and the ambulance continued to the hospital.

On March 21, 2022, the ambulance employee was continuing to have pain in their ribs and bruising from the assault. The employee was sent for medical examination and treatment. X-rays revealed that the victim had one broken rib caused by Markley hitting him.  A warrant for Assault 2nd Degree was issued and on 04/05/2022 he was arrested.  Markley is being held at the Lauderdale County Detention Center on a $2,500 bond.
