ATHENS-Athens Police chief Floyd Johnson issued a statement concerning the arrest of a suspect on a Grand Jury Indictment on Wednesday, December 22:
“On the morning of Wednesday, December 22 Kendall Speegle, 40 of Trinity ,was arrested on a Grand Jury indictment for manslaughter.
This case is the investigation of the death of Michael Richard 48 of Moulton on April 19, 2021 at the Econo Lodge on US 72 East. At the time of the death we were unable to determine the cause of death and an autopsy was requested. The results of the autopsy showed the cause of death was from a single stab to Richard’s right forearm with other contributing factors.
I can not discuss the other contributing factors. After reviewing all evidence in this case investigators ask the district attorney to present this case to a grand jury. The grand jury returned the indictment for Speegle’s arrest. Speagle and Richard were in a relationship at the time of this incident. Speegle was booked at the police department and transferred to the county jail.”
