Suspect Arrest Charged With Robbery 1st In Robbery On Hobbs Street

ATHENS-Police Chief Floyd Jhnson of Athens Police lissed a statement concerning the arrest of a suspect on Monday, January 23 who has been charged with Robbery 1St and possession of a concealed weapon with aout a permit:

“On Monday night shortly before 8:00 the police department received a call of a robbery at the China Dragon on East Hobbs Street. One of the employees was taking out the trash when an older black male walked up pulled a hand gun out and demanded money. He then had the employee get on the ground and told the employee not to look at him and kicked the employee in the face. The employee got up and ran back to the store. The offender ran toward Hobbs Street.

Shortly after 9:00 Officer Jarod Smith located a black male fitting the description of the robber on Westmoreland Ave. at Colbert Street. Smith got out of his unit to make contact with the suspect and the suspect walked away then started to run. Smith caught the suspect on Hardy Street. After a struggle Smith was able to take Larry Malone into custody. While Malone was resisting Smith, Malone kept trying to reach into his coat pocket. After Malone’s arrest Smith found a Taurus pistol in Malone’s coat pocket. Malone was arrested and charged with robbery first degree, resisting arrest, attempting to elude a police officer and possession of a concealed weapon with a permit. Malone was booked at the police department and transferred to the county jail.”
