Susan Trapp McCamy, age 76, went to be with the Lord, July 29, 2017. She was a much beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. The family will receive friends for visitation tomorrow, August 1, 2017 from 10:30 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church in Tuscumbia, Alabama. A celebration of life service will follow at noon at the church. Dr. Randy Thompson will be officiating, and music will be by Dinie Stone. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery in Tuscumbia, Alabama.

Susan was born in Tuscumbia, Alabama and graduated from Deshler High School in 1959. She attended Stephens College and graduated from the University of Mississippi. She lived in Memphis for 40 years with her husband, Don and three girls before returning to Florence, Alabama.

Her strong love for her Lord and Savior and burden for the pressures on young mothers led her to start a mothers of preschoolers (MOPS) ministry, which she headed for many years at First Evangelical Church in Memphis. Susan followed that with another program pairing young women with more mature ones for spiritual mentoring. Susan lavished hospitality on family, friends, and strangers wherever she lived. At First Presbyterian Church in Tuscumbia, Susan was instrumental in beginning a flower and visitation ministry to shut-ins. Her greatest joy was to see her children and grandchildren walking with the Lord. They lovingly called her Grand.

Susan Trapp McCamy was preceded in death by her parents, Dr. Walter Russell Trapp and Margaret Blackwood Trapp; first husband, Bill Olim; grandson John Michael Salchert, and brother-in-law Dr. Robert W. Jenkins. She is survived by husband Donald Howard McCamy; children Katherine Lane Salchert, Jennifer Barton Pierce (Steve), Elizabeth Rutland Thrash (Ryan); and grandchildren David Salchert, William Salchert, Will Pierce, Caroline Pierce, Carter Thrash and Claire Thrash; brothers, Dr. Doug Trapp (Mercer) and Russell (Rusty) Trapp (Gail); and sister Peggy Trapp Jenkins.

Rusty Trapp, Steve Pierce, Ryan Thrash, David Salchert, William Salchert, Will Pierce, and Carter Thrash will serve as pallbearers.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First Presbyterian Church in Tuscumbia, to Mila’s House in Memphis (BMH Good Grief Center- Milla’s House, 1520 W. Poplar, Collierville, TN 38017) or to the charity of your choice.
