ATHENS-The summer concert series took place this past Friday night, May 20th at the Vietnam Veterans building due to the inclement weather forecast. Despite the weather and the Limestone County Sheriff’s Rodeo, the crowd came on out to enjoy the program. The crowd numbered just under 100 people.
The Dixie Blue Grass Boys performed at 6:00pm until 6:45pm, and the crowd really got with the movement action of their music as they played many familiar songs and some original material as well.
Cheryl Llewellyn performed from 7:00pm until 8:00pm. Cheryl writes most of her own music and songs. She has a bluesy, sultry voice which would make you think you were in New Orleans Speak-Easy.
On June 3rd from 6:00 to 8:00pm, our Summer Concert will feature “Huntsville Rocket City Chorus” and the Athens’ “Southern Splendor Chorus”. They will present a cappella
harmonies in the barbershop style of singing. The two groups are part of the Barbershop Harmony Society which is the world’s largest all-male singing organization.
On June 17th the Summer Concert continues with “Just Down the Road” with Guinn Laxson and Company. The program will begin at 6:00pm and go until 8:00pm. Their genre of music is good ole Bluegrass. We are planning to have a great show and fantastic weather for the coming month
to hold this show on the Square.
We will still inform you of any changes of venue on Facebook @ Athens-Limestone Visitors Center and if time allows in the News Courier.
We would like to thank the Vietnam Veterans Association for allowing us the use of their building. It is a perfect location and facility for our rain location for our concerts. Thank You, also to Jimmy Smith Buick – GMC for being our sponsor for this year’s SUMMER CONCERT SERIES. We appreciate everyone’s support for coming out so far this year.
